SWANSON, Manford (Max) It is with heavy hearts that the family of Manford (Max) Swanson of Pleasant Manor, Virgil announces cheap jerseys his passing on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the age of 91. He was the patriarch and “Poppa” to grandchildren Krista, Karena, Adam S., Paula, Jason, Tina, Adam B. and Andrea. Great grandfather of Oscar, Harriet and Trudeau. Dear uncle to many nieces and nephews, including Jackie and Nick. Dad was born in London, Ontario on May 27, 1916 to Daniel and Elizabeth Swanson. He had a challenging upbringing, being the youngest of six siblings and growing up during the Great Depression. He was fascinated with automobiles and put that interest to work as a driver in the Canadian Army during World War II. After the war he would take the family on long driving vacations, often including his passion of baseball. His idea of a perfect vacation was to drive around Lake Erie taking in games at Detroit and Cleveland. He and his sons would have long debates about how they would handle the Blue Jays if they were the owners. Max was the master of evocative language. His colourful expressions made everyone laugh. Someone was “so cheap he could squeeze the beaver right off the nickel” or “crazier than a lock jawed cuckoo”. Dad was also a supremely generous man, who worked hard and always made sure this family was well fed, sheltered and clothed. In his later years, he was tenderly cared for by his soul mate Luella and the staff at Pleasant Manor.
